Fabulous Finds- Antique Buffet

You guys, we found something really cool!  It’s been awhile since I’ve featured a fabulous find, but I’m happy to tell ya about the great deal we got on an antique buffet.  Or maybe it’s a console table?  Whatever it is, I like it.

It’s solid wood and made well all the way around.

It’s missing the middle drawer, but my husband will work some magic and make it look like it was supposed to be that way.   Maybe we’ll throw some baskets there, or oh ummm what about a wine rack of some sort??   Yeah, that could be good.  Check out those casters.

The original drawer hardware had been removed (darn!)  and I REALLY wish the star-shaped hardware would have been left on too.  You can see the impressions where the stars were.

Maybe I can find some similar stars.  Anybody have any ideas there?

It’s pretty beat up, but beat up means it has character.  It has a story (that we’ll probably never learn, but we’ll just imagine it originated in an old mansion or something.  That sounds more interesting ;)

Actually, it won’t be keeping this outfit on.  We’re not sure what look we want to go with yet.  I kind of want to go bold!

Maybe something like this:

You know green is my favorite color if you’ve seen our office.

I just noticed the pulls on that green piece are the same ones I pointed out in this post about knobs I love!

I’m really into peacock blues too, like this:

Its new home will be in the front room, and I’ve been thinking for awhile now that it’s time to change the wall color in there.  I want something more neutral, but still something light and airy since there’s only one window in that room.  I’ll dive deeper into that another day though.

Oh I just got another idea.  Maybe after I paint the walls, I’ll paint the new buffet the color that’s on the walls now?? Who knows, decisions like this are fun though!

I’m really diggin’ this detail because it resembles the look of Greek key.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot- the price!  It was listed on Craigslist for $125 and we took it home for $70!  Not too shabby for an antique!

If you missed our other amazing finds, check out our $25 end table set, our $125 dining table/chairs, and my $20 jewelry chest.  Or to see all of our projects, hop over to the project gallery!!

What have you picked up lately?!  Do you like our new buffet?

  1. Beautiful find! I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

  2. That is fantastic! I really like the wine holder idea, along with that fabulous green!

  3. Before you mentioned that you were thinking green as the paint color that was exactly what I was thinking. I love good finds like this and should really look around for more pieces like that for our house. Nothing like a piece with character and a history.

  4. Holy awesomeness! That buffet is quite the find. You are so lucky!

  5. That is SO COOL. Please let me have it. Please? I love that greek key detail! I say go green!

    • Thanks Shirley!! Stay tuned to see what she turns into! OMG I don’t miss the snow, but it dropped like 30 degrees here today. Yesterday it was 70 and I think the low tonight is around 40! Brrrrr

  7. Awesome! I can’t wait to see what you do with it! Apparently Emerald is the color of 2013, so that would be fabulous =)

  8. WOW!! I LOVE it!!! Yes, go bold — she deserves a good makeover. :) Score for Whitney!!

  9. I love the casters!! I saw those pins yesterday with the peacock blue and emerald green and LOVED them. I say go for it and try to find some beautiful brass hardware to go with it! (Wow… never thought I’d pair “beautiful” with “brass hardware” ever … I guess your tastes really do change… haha).

  10. Whoa, I spent like an hour today on Craig’s List looking for a buffet! Everything I liked was a couple hundred bucks, which is no bueno. I’m hoping to find a piece like this myself. Can’t wait to see what you do with it!

    • I know what you mean, most of them are like $300 and I just can’t do that. Maybe one will pop up when you least expect it; it seems like it always happens that way!

  11. WOW, $70!!! That is awesome … and it totally reminds me of Greek Key, too. Great find!
