Cottage by the Sea [and blog updates]

We are doing some major updating of our blog, so just a heads up if things look a little wonky for a few days!!  If something isn’t working right, PLEASE LET US KNOW!

John and I made our way to the beach this weekend, and we stopped in this adorable shop called Cottage by the Sea.  Everything is so shabby and totally right up my alley.

This china cabinet caught my eye:

Check out these adorable vintage canisters..

…at $20 for the set, I seriously thought about it.  This white dresser is gorgeous as well:

…and what about this mosaic tiled end table, done by a local artist.

I love it!  And here’s another shabby china cabinet that makes me giddy:

In a little corner tucked away:

And then lastly this antique armiore:

I’m such a sucker for old furniture!

You know I didn’t come home empty handed though ;)   We picked up a runner for our dining room table that we just madeover, as well as a rustic centerpiece.  I threw in a few decorative balls that I bought awhile ago from Home Goods….they aren’t staying, just there til we find something better.  Check out our new goodies!

This runner is just what I had been picturing!

What do you think of the new runner and centerpiece?  Is the rustic look your thing, or not really?  Which piece is your favorite from Cottage by the Sea?

I’m sharing my new runner at Savvy Southern Style!

    Whitney,
Love what you and John are doing with your home, Oh, it would be very difficult for me to walk away from Cottage by the Sea without some purchases. I love the old furniture and the shabby chic seaside look!!!

  2. I love the new look!
And that vintage armoire is really pretty; I am searching for something like that for our full bath.
The dining table looks fabulous with the new centerpiece!

  3. I DO love the rustic look but find that it doesn’t really work in our more classic, century-old home. But I admire it elsewhere, and your runner is no exception!

  4. The runner is perfect – it’s like sand meets sea with the browns in the runner and your blue-grey table :-) And the centerpiece is really nice. I love the look of rustic mixed with a bit of bling (the whole juxtaposition thing). Something sparkly in the centerpiece would look great :-)

I think my favourite piece from Cottage By The Sea is white armoire in the last picture. And I like the starfish & shells in the vignettes :-)

  5. Awesome post, Whitney!! Pinning photos from the shop for my booth display ideas AND your fab dining room table (I’m drooling over the paint color and the fabric on your chairs!). Thanks for sharing ~hope you have a wonderful time at the beach!

Whitney, I think you need the milk can canisters to remind you of your dairy farm roots:) Grandma would be impressed.

  7. I like the rustic runner and bowl! I usually have some rustic in all of my rooms. Not because I think to buy it myself, but because my family is really rustic (my Dad, Uncle and brothers are timberframers) and are always giving me stuff. Anyway, I think a little rustic, something natural, always looks nice.

  8. Wow, that store looks like a gold mine. And that chippy hold hutch is so fantastic!!! You came home with some goodies, I think the runner and centerpiece are just perfect for your table. :)
