We’ve made a lot of changes to our porch and the landscape on the front of our house since the time we moved in almost a year ago. We tore down the porch and rebuilt a bigger one and added some greenery. This is what we started with:
And this was our porch after all that stuff:
A little better, right?! Do you notice what’s missing? …something to sit on! We have two rocking chairs that we picked up from our neighbor’s yard sale awhile back. We’ve been using these, but they don’t match. The light blue one clearly isn’t working.
We’d been thinking we would make some type of swing to go where the chairs are. But when we came across some cool hammock swings on eBay for $30 each, we snagged them in a hurry. Check them out!
We relocated the fern to the other side of the 4×4 pole, and it actually makes the porch look bigger.
The porch overhang keeps them covered, so I’m hoping they don’t get too weathered. If we know it’s going to storm, we can easily bring them inside though. I love the touch they bring to the porch! Quite a change from a year ago
Have you been updating your exterior lately?

Love these swings! I can’t wait to test them out in JULY!!!
Yay, can’t wait!
I love the porch redo, and those chairs are great! It’s looking good, Whitney. I’m taking notes for our exterior updates. Thanks for linking up!
I could sit in one of those for hours–they look so comfy!! And they add a lot of character to the porch, too!
Thanks, Erin! They might be a little too comfy!
L-O-V-E!!! Those chairs look so comfy! They definitely add a whole lot of charm to your porch, which was phenom before you even put those up! I’m so jealous of your front porch. We want to add one, in probably 20 years when we have the funds hahaha.
Thanks Gabbi!! We did a lot of it ourselves, so that definitely helped lower the total price tag
That’s an expert answer to an inetrseting question
Wow! Those hammock swings are awesome!
P.S. I wish I lived in a 60s ranch! Totally would’ve scooped one up, if there would’ve been one available in these parts.
thanks Cheltz! It’s kinda cool to live in an old home!!
Those look really comfortable! I like how your front porch came out too! Very nice.
Thanks John!
Your porch looks so cozy! We have a porch at our house but we never seem to use it. I always wanted one and pictured myself out there relaxing on it but have yet to do that too often. I need to get on that! I love the new chairs- looks so cozy and welcoming!
You’ve been preoccupied planning this awesome wedding!
I love your front porch – it looks so cozy! I’m a big fan of those new chairs and that rocking chair!
Thanks Kristen!
Oh my gosh! I love it! It’s so charming!! I’m looking at options for front porch seating at our house too. Sad we don’t have the space for these!
Thanks Kate! I know you’ll come up with something good
Your front porch looks so welcoming! The perfect place to spend an afternoon relaxing
I could sooo spend an afternoon swinging….
Whoa..what a magnificent transformation on the porch…Amazing job!!…
I love the porch hammock swings!..this is the first time I have ever seen them and they are fantastic!…Your porch is perfect for beautiful Florida days…
Thanks Shirley, the porch was one of our first projects after we moved in!
WOW! i am a newer reader so i hadn’t seen your before/after posts of the front of the house before…the porch is incredible! and those chairs are amazing, i don’t know if you would be able to get me out of them!
Thanks Lyndsay! It’s much bigger aka usable now
Love the swings! That is so fun! I’ve been trying to convince Jesse to get a porch swing, but our porch is kinda awkward and we’d be facing a wall instead of the yard.
aw shucks, walls aren’t quite as fun to admire as greenery. maybe you can angle it??
I oohed and aahed at the transformation! I am crazy about porches in general (they are very rare in London) but to have rocking chairs and swings on them would be a dream-come-true for me! I also really love the planting out the front, it all looks so inviting!
Thanks Meghan!! With our previous porch, we couldn’t fit a chair on it because it wasn’t deep enough, so this is a dream for us too!!
That looks awesome! It makes the porch look even more cozy and inviting.
Thanks Stephanie, we have been trying to achieve that cozy look!
Love the chairs! They look so comfy. And I am definitely loving what you’ve done with the porch so far.
Thanks Brandi! I plopped down in one yesterday evening and they are quite nice if I do say so myself!
Those are awesome! Your front porch is lookin’ great.
Thanks Melanie, they’re pretty darn comfy too
Love, love, love those swings! Great price! They add a touch of cozy to the porch. You guys have made great progress out there! Good for you!
Thanks Diana! I like the new look much better!
Sweet find on those chairs! They look like they’d be so comfy and relaxing to be in on a nice day.. And I love me some big, fat ferns!!
Our front yard is mud right now… so yeah, we have quite a bit of updating to do.
They are really comfy! And well..I think it’s allowed to have a muddy yard when you’re building an amazing house
