I’ve decided to start a new tag titled “Fabulous Finds,” devoted to those pieces we came across for next to nothing, or for FREE! I’m kind of pumped about it. I know it’s just a category, but it symbolizes the saying, “What’s one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” What we found recently is literally just that.
Here’s the scoop: John and I were pulling into our neighborhood after dinner out, and one of our neighbors down the street had put their bed frame (including a big heavy headboard and footboard) and nightstand at the end of the driveway. These are Lexington pieces, but of course we didn’t know that at the time. We’ve never met these folks before, but we drive by their house everyday. We drove on by while I did a double take, turning to look back as if Channing Tatum was standing in their driveway. I mean I was ooogling over this furniture.
We pulled in our driveway and had about a 30 second conversation that went something like this:
Me: OMG are they throwing their furniture away?!
John: Yeah, that looked like pretty nice stuff.
Me: What the heck?? Why wouldn’t they sell it?
John: Honey, not everyone is as crazy as you! They probably just bought new furniture and don’t want to mess with the hassle of selling it.
Me: (laughing) You wanna go back and look at it? Is that weird if we just take it off their driveway? Are we even allowed to do that?
John: (laughing) I guess so! I’m not the Curb Alert police! But would you want it if you saw it at a consignment store?
Me: Maybe, but it would depend on how much it was.
John: Well it’s free right now, and we know where it’s coming from, so you better make up your mind or it’s gonna be gone!
Me: Let’s go!
There was also a leather chair and the mattress and box, which we left for the trash man. We only wanted the wood pieces themselves. And about 5 minutes later, we have a bed frame and nightstand sitting in our garage.
I’m starting to think I really am a tad crazy! But I love it when John puts things into a different perspective for me. He rocks. They were going to throw it all away, and now I have some nice furniture to makeover (or not makeover and do some rearranging) and that is enough to get a girl excited! I just need to figure out what I want to do with them, but don’t worry, you know ideas are brewing.
